Stone Leaf Pottery fires items for a fee based on the weight. Stone Leaf is a health conscious studio. We will not fire items that are glazed with products containing lead, barium, or non-encapsulated cadmium. If you are not certain your glazes meet our safety standards, please bring the container with you.

Guarantee: Stone Leaf Pottery will fire your items to the best of our abilities and care for them as much as we would items of our own. (Thatπs the guarantee.) We cannot guarantee results. Clay and glazes react differently to firing schedules and we canπt account for that.

Drop Off & Pick Up:

Û You must call ahead to arrange a general time to drop off your items.

Û We weigh your items when they arrive at our store; make sure they are completely dry before bringing them or you will be charged for water weight.

Û We will not store your packing materials; take them home when you drop off items to be fired.

Û When you drop off your items to be fired, bisque or glaze, you must know the Cone or temperature you need your items fired to. If you do not know the Cone, bring the packaging from the clay or glaze.

Û When your items are dropped off to be fired, customers may or may not get an estimate of when things will be ready to be picked up. Items are first come, first fired.

Bisque Pick Up:

Û Stone Leaf Pottery only fires items (bisque) that are 100% dry; this helps reduce cracking. Your ready to be bisqued item will sit up on top of a kiln to dry for at least one bisque cycle (24 hours), then be loaded to be bisqued.

Û We bisque fire to about 1950ö. It takes about 12 hours to heat the kiln to this temperature and about 24 hours for the kiln to cool off = kiln time alone is a minimum of 36 hours. From the day the item is dropped off, expect about 7 days before you can pick up your items. Stone Leaf Pottery will call you once as soon as your item(s) are ready to be picked up. Be sure to leave your phone number where a message can be left!

Preparing your items for Glaze Firing:

Û We do not fire leaded glazes.

Û We suggest that with all Cone 5 glazed items you leave a 1\4 inch margin at the bottom of your pot to prevent glazing problemsä. i.e. your glaze melting all over the kiln and kiln furniture. Items glaze fired to Cone 06 can be stilted, if they are not too heavy.

Û The bottom of your Cone 5 pot must be 100% glaze free.

Û To prevent over glazing problems, we fire each glazed item on a flat clay prop. This way, if any item is over glazed, it will stick itself to this clay prop. These clay props usually do not come off easily, so be wary of over glazing. If any of your pots do stick, you will have to remove the disc after you take your pots home. Oh, and you WILL be charged for the clay disc.

Û In the event your items are so over glazed they stick to the clay discs they are fired on and the glaze runs onto the kiln furniture, customers will be charged for any kiln furniture affected or ruined.

Glaze Pick Up:

Û It takes us about 50 hours to glaze fire, including cooling time. From the day your glazed item is dropped off, expect 4 to 10 days before it is ready to be picked up. Customers will receive one call when items are ready to be picked up. Be sure to leave your phone number where a message can be left!

Cost for Firing:

Û We charge a handling fee for each item brought in for firing. This fee is 10¢ per item for bisque firing, and 25¢ per item for glaze firing. All items must be paid for prior to firing.

Bisque firing to Cone 04: 10¢ per ounce

Glaze firing to Cone 06: 15¢ per ounce

Glaze firing to Cone 5: 25¢ per ounce
